Frankf. a/M Octbr: 2de 1883.

My dear Lady Thompson,
how kind, that you thought of my birthday – I thank you heartily for your kind letter by which I heard from you all directly, which is so much more satisfactory than one hears by inquiring others. You do not speak of your health, I take it for granted therefore, that you |2| are not worse, and I would be happy if I could convince myself of it, with my ownes eyes. I must tell you, that I have a great wish and a slight hope to go to England this season, but of course it depends quite from the state of my health.
I am sorry that my many occupations prevent me from giving you more detailed news, but you will soon see Miss Oser, who is now our guest, and who |3| can tell you as much about me, as you wish to hear.
Give my kindest regards to all your family, and be assured of my warmest affection. My daughters beg to be remembered to you and I remain, dear Lady Thompson
yours most sincerely
Clara Schumann.
