London April 10th 84.

My dear Lady Thompson
when I went to the door yesterday to tell you good-bye you were already gone. I was very sorry, that I could not shake you hands more. And than, when I came up into my |2| room I found your kind present, and was sorry again not having been able to tell you “Adieux” and say warmest thanks. I feel quite sorry that it was so very little, what I saw of you this time, but my age commands rest as much as possible. |3| I shall try to see you once more to-day, but if it should be impossibel for me to find time, will you accept my kindest wishes by those lines for you and all your dear family, as well from Marie, who felt unhappy |4| having told you not to come to-day, but you will kindly excuse her, as she know, who bussy we are to-day, - and was also afraid to give you the trouble.
Believe me, dear Lady Thompson, yours very affectionate
Clara Schumann.
