Frankfurt a/M 13th of May 1887.

My dear Lady Thompson
only a few words to thank you for your dear letter. You gave me such a comfort by your new token of friendship. Oh yes, it was a hard trial to loose that dear, lovely child; Elise and her husband are deeply grieved, and send their kindest thanks for your sympathy, which, though |2| they are unknown to you, you so warmly expressed.
Eugenie feels better now, but, still not yet quite well – we hopes from the summer. My son must leave for a whole year Berlin, it must be done all possibly, to restored him. The cares for his whole family falls upon my shoulders now – that gives much to think and to do! heaven may help us giving him back his health.
|3|My dear friend, excuse my writing so badly, and take mine and my daughters warmest wishes for you and your dear family.
In the hope to see you again next spring (winter)
I am yours very affectionate
Clara Schumann.
